Seachtain na Gaeilge 02 – 17 March 2013

Seachtain na Gaeilge, the rather more than a week-long festival of events celebrating the Irish language, heritage, culture, The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Give Irish a Go’. The emphasis is on public participation and is aimed at those with little or no Irish, the ‘cúpla focail’, or who are fluent.

Éigse an Spidéil is an annual festival of traditional music, dance, sean-nós singing, art, and poetry which takes place in Spiddal, Co. Galway.

Players Tour Championship Grand Finals 12 – 17 March 2013

Nine of the world’s top ten ranked snooker stars are among the 32 competitors who have qualified to contest the Players Tour Championship Grand Finals in Galway in March. World number one and Masters champion Mark Selby, world number two Mark Williams, world champion John Higgins, potting sensation Judd Trump and Asia’s top player Ding Junhui will join Ireland’s Ken Doherty among the cast of star names appearing at the Bailey Allen Hall at NUI Galway from March 12 to 17.

Head of the River Rowing Regata 16 March 2013

This year the Head of the River will be organised by NUIG Boat Club and Tribesmen, and it takes place from the mouth of the lake to a little downstream from the Quincentennial Bridge on March 9th. The boats race for fours and double sculls starts at 10.30am, the race for single sculls and pairs starts at 1.30pm, and the race for eights and quad sculls starts at 4pm. Hundreds of competitors will be involved, and the best viewing points are Dangan slip or on or near the Quincentennial Bridge.
